Thank You!

During our September 2 MCA meeting, we learned from Maria Williamson and Angie Thompson, our Food Pantry Directors, that the Food Pantry food stock and money to buy additional food was dangerously low. Over 60 families visited in late August, and many of those had children. Likewise, as the holidays approach, the need typically goes up.

To make matters worse, two other regional food pantries recently closed. It was a somber entry in the minutes of that meeting.

However, we are happy to report that we received some help. We received several monetary donations. I’m not listing the names here as a few of these individuals have requested to remain anonymous. However, their gifts were timely, generous and will be put to good use.

Likewise, when Angie reached out to our elected officials, we weren’t sure if they would be able to help. We were wrong. Senator Todd Pillion, Delegate Terry Kilgore and Delegate Israel O’Quinn reached in their own pockets and pooled together a fairly significant sum. In addition, they reached out to their friends at Food City and, after hearing of our situation, Food City agreed to match their donation.

We are thankful to everyone who donated — both privately and for these generous leaders in our community. We’ll put those funds and these much-needed food supplies to good use.

And these three — well they had a great time acting as delivery boys! We sure appreciated their time and generosity.
